Ronnie L. Lewis, 78, passed away peacefully at home at 10:35 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Alton on May 14, 1941, the son of the late Andrew and Mildred (Douglas) Lewis. He married the love of his life the former Janet Harshbarger on August 20, 1960. She survives. He worked for Gibson's Furniture, was a co-owner of Flicks Movie Rental and worked in construction. He enjoyed racing, sports, fishing and camping at Roodhouse Lake. He loved spending time with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Besides his wife, he is survived by his seven children and their spouses; Ronnie and Gail Lewis of Alton, Susie and Bill Jones of Bethalto, Teresa and Fred Stutz of Bethalto, Lisa and Rusty Brown of East Alton, Tammy (David Kirk) Mellenthin of Cottage Hills, Cathy and Dane Reynolds of Bethalto, Jenny and Bryon Barth of Bethalto, eighteen grandchildren, Jeremy, Nathan, Andy, Holly, Angela, James, Brooke, Kara, Ronnie, Dorsey, Steven, Liz, David, Cody, Kaitlyn, Dylan, Will and Cory, twenty-two great grandchildren; his siblings and their spouses; Lonnie and Diane Lewis of Cottage Hills, Gerry and Carly Lewis of Missouri, Bonnie and Ron Patton of New Athens, Betty and Leon Price of Brighton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bobby Lewis and his sisters Norma Elliott, Sherry Cope, Darlene Cope, Shirley Fitzgerald and Pat Wilkes. A Celebration of Life will be from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
