On 2 Jan 1942, Marjorie E Foltz, 21, born in Tenth Legion, VA, the daughter of E E Foltz and Rena Thomas, married Alden W Whitmore, aged 22, born in Broadway, VA, a student, the son of A W Whitmore and Kittle Aldhizer, in Harrisonburg, VA. They applied for a marriage license in Rockingham Co., VA on 31 Dec 1941 and were married 2 days later. VA Cert on of Marriage #34976. LDS film #101168313 (see photo).

Marjorie Foltz Whitmore, 96, formerly of Stratford House, passed away at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, on Saturday, April 20, 2019. She was born on September 12, 1922, in Broadway, Va., to the late Rena and Emmett Foltz. On January 2, 1942, she married Alden W. Whitmore, who predeceased her on October 10, 1980. They moved to Danville in 1968, where Dr. Whitmore was Assistant Superintendent in the Danville Public Schools. After his death, Mrs. Whitmore worked a short while at Averett College and 21 years at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church as their Financial Secretary. She was a member of West Main Baptist Church and the Friendship class. She loved to play golf and was a seamstress. Mrs. Whitmore is survived by one son, Alden W. Whitmore Jr. and his wife, Kathie, of Lancaster, S.C.; a granddaughter, Ami Mills and her husband, Earl, of Fort Mill, S.C.; a grandson, Alan Whitmore and his wife, Season, of Indian Land, S.C.; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Thomas E. Foltz of New Market, Va. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Gary in 1960; a sister and a brother. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at West Main Baptist Church with the Reverend Gary Dalton officiating. Interment will be in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery in Lexington, Va., at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 22, 2019, at Townes Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The family gives a special thanks to her caregivers, Susie Kendrick, Jackie Williams and Karen Thomas. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to God's Storehouse, 750 Memorial Drive, Danville, VA 24541 or to West Main Baptist Church, 450 West Main Street, Danville, VA 24541. Townes Funeral Home is serving the Whitmore family.
