Sikeston, MO - Harold "Gene" Stroud, Jr., age 78, passed away December 30, 2019 at his home in Sikeston, Missouri.
He was born February 3, 1941 in Cooter, Missouri, son of the late Harold and Eula Faye Baty Stroud. He was of the Methodist faith, and worked as a repairman for Advanced Business Systems, Superior Business Machines, Scheffer's Office Furniture and Business Machines, before retiring. He was most proud of his military service in the U.S. Army, he was a lifetime member of Henry Meldrum American Legion Post 114, Sons of American Legion, he served the legion in a number of capacities but he loved the Cotton Carnival and the fish trailer.
On April 23, 2011, he married Mary Pierce, she survives of the home in Sikeston.
Other survivors include one son and daughter in law, Eugene(Jill) Stroud, III of Sikeston; one step-son and daughter in law Paul(Ashley) Pierce of Benton; two step-daughters and sons in laws, Lesa(Vern) McDannald of Sikeston, and Jessica(Justin) Winkler of Jackson, and one brother and sister in law, Phillip(Bonnie) "Butch" Stroud of Sikeston; five grandchildren, Allie Stroud, Finlee Stroud, Jaeda Winkler, Liam Winkler, Teigan Winkler, and Sam Polivick.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Linda McClain.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home. Committal services with full military honors will be held at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield at 2 p.m. Friday January 3 with Callum Reavey, hospice chaplain officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chester Kordahl, John Daniels, Larry Appleton, and Larry Roach
