He was born in Shelby County, the son of the late Ed Whiteside and Marie Whiteside Boyd. Mr. Whiteside grew up in the Somerville - Oakland area and was a 1977 graduate of Fayette Ware High School. He had worked in construction and also was a supervisor for Flextronics in Memphis.
On June 19, 1993, he married Debbie Thomas. He served and loved his country in the US Coast Guard from 1980-84. In his leisure time, his interests included airplanes, guitars and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 26 years, he leaves a step-daughter, Shannon Babin of Somerville; three grandchidren, Jasmine Hill of Somerville, Lillian and Ethan Powelson of Laconia; numerous cousins, including Cheryl Armbruster of Barlett; and his in-laws, Tony and Betty Thomas of Somerville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-son, Jeremy Thomas.
