Obituary for Mrs. Virgie Mae Smith-Norwood
Virgie Jr. Smith-Norwood was born on August 29, 1961
to the union of Cornelius Smith and Lou-Virgie Childs in
Lambert, Mississippi. Virgie received Christ as her lord and savior
at a young age and never lost her faith.
Virgie Jr. along with her family moved to Kankakee, Illinois in
1965, then to Joliet, Illinois in 1974 and finally to Milwaukee, WI
in 1980 which became her permanent residency.
Virgie Jr. gave birth on August 16, 1975 to her one and only
daughter Lavitta Smith, whom she loved and adored dearly.
Virgie Jr. was united in Holy Matrimony with Sylvester Norwood
on April 15, 2006. She was a good wife and she loved her hus-
band. The two were inseparable; they were the best of friends.
In her leisure, Virgie Jr. enjoyed spending quality time with her
family, especially her daughter and grandkids, they were her
pride and Joy. There wasn't a day that passed Virgie Jr. didn't
talk about them or her parents. She told family stories over and
over and gave a glimpse of her childhood about growing up and
how strict her parents were. Virgie had a soft spot for children;
she would adopt anyone's children and loved them as her own.
She also enjoyed riding in her car with the top down, cooking,
dancing, playing music, and telling it like it was. Her home was
the gathering place for the family and she was the life of the
party always entertaining them the best way she could.
Virgie Jr. worked at Midamerica Home Health Care for over 10
years. She was also a paraprofessional for MPS.
Virgie Jr. was loved and she will be dearly missed. She departed
this life on December 1, 2016. She was preceded in death by
her father; Cornelius Smith, brother; Moses Childs, sisters; Irene
and Brenda Smith and her dog Toya.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory husband; Slyvester
Norwood, mother; Virgie Smith Sr., daughter; Lavitta Smith, five
grandchildren; Natavia, Quaevion, Javis, Jalieah, Katera, three
sisters; Mary (Fred) Joiner of MS, Magnolia (Anthony) Brooks,
Linda (her mud buddy) Nickens, three brothers; David Child of
California, Sammy (Tammy) Smith, Percy Smith, along with a
host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and close friends.
