Joe Henry Jimenez Sr., a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and Deacon at St. Juan Diego Catholic Church, died unexpectedly on December 29, 2019 at the age of 70.
Joe is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janie Jimenez; his mom, Angelita Jimenez, his children; son Joe Jimenez Jr., and daughter in-law Norma Jimenez, granddaughters Jessica Jimenez and Jeannette Jimenez-Sanchez; son Larry Jimenez and granddaughter Miranda Medina-Jimenez; daughter Rita Sanchez, granddaughter Esmeralda Sanchez and grandson Juan Samuel Sanchez; daughter Therese Hobbs and son in-law Andrew Hobbs II, grandsons Andrew Hobbs III and Thomas Hobbs; brother Luis Jimenez and sister Linda Calderon and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Dimas Jimenez; nephew Eduardo Jimenez and grand-niece Penelope Villegas.
Joe was born in Kingsville, TX on December 31, 1948 to Dimas Jimenez and Angelita Jimenez. He attended St. Gertrude Catholic School, graduated from Henrietta King High School and studied at Texas A and I University. He began a career with the State of Texas Highway Department then ultimately retired from the City of Pasadena in 2006 after working for over 30 years. He served in the Texas National Guard from March 6, 1970 to March 5, 1976. He attained the rank of Specialist (E-4), and received badges for sharpshooter, marksman, and grenade launcher. In 2003 he was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church, where he served the community of St. Juan Diego for over 16 years. He had a strong devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
His best life events included getting married to his beloved wife Janie, the births of his four children, but his greatest life events, were the births of his seven grandchildren, who he was devoted to. His favorite hobbies included: puzzles, reading the newspaper, watching the Young and the Restless, watching his favorite football team, the Texans, or as he referred to them as “the pathetic losers”, traveling by train and family road trips. He enjoyed listening to oldies, Tejano, Little Joe and The Hometown Boys.
He will be deeply missed, not only by his family, but the community he loved and served for so many years.
