Capt. Mr. Joseph Conkwright, 66, Hardinsburg, died Wednesday, November 13, 1996 at his residence. He was born in Breckinridge County on December 23, 1929, the son of John Nelson & Nora Fitzhugh Conkwright. Mr. Conkwright retired from being a riverboat captain for 47 years. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, 3 brothers and 1 stepson, William Edward Cunningham. Mr. Conkwright is survived by his wife, Cathern Chism Conkwright, Hardinsburg; a son, Bill Conkwright, Irvington; 4 stepsons: Chuck Metcalfe, McDaniels, KY, Mark Metcalfe, Brooks, KY, Steve Metcalfe, Hardinsburg, and Jeff Smith, Rhodelia; a daughter, Sandy Dowell, Irvington; 2 stepdaughters: Jennifer Greenwell, Cloverport, KY and Angie Medley, Guston; 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Tom Conkwright, Hardinsburg; and Jim Conkwright, Tuscola, IL; and 1 sister, Regina Hall, Clinton, MD. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 1996 at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home. Burial was in Kingswood Cemetery in Harned, KY. Visitation was from 2-8 p.m. Friday, November 15 at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Central Kentucky.
