Officer Richard L. Schroeder, DSN 2065, received his commission on 12/15/1952. Upon completion of the academy he served in the following district and specialized divisions through out his career. They were the 1st, Communication's Division, Dummy Assignment, Bureau of Field Operations, and finally the Communication's Division. Officer Schroeder retired on 06/19/1984 and served 29.18 years of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Officer Schroeder was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Private 1st Class.

Richard Louis Schroeder, age 92, of Glen Carbon, IL, formerly of St. Louis, MO, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at his home. Richard was born on September 13, 1927 in East St. Louis, IL, a son of the late Louis Schroeder and Marie (Gahr) Schroeder.

Richard was a Korean War veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army. On April 22, 1985, Richard married Kazuko Tajima in Reno, NV. He retired from the St. Louis Police Department as a dispatcher and policeman after many years of dedicated service. He was also a member of the St. Louis Retired Police Officers Association. Richard was very well read and he enjoyed train travels and spending the winters in San Francisco, CA. He also enjoyed walking around Botanical Gardens and dining outdoors. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Richard loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife Kazuko Schroeder of Glen Carbon, IL; loving children, Linda (Arthur) Buechler of Troy, IL, Timothy (Tammy) Stambaugh of Fenton, MO and Anna (Joe) Grabowski of Moro, IL; proud grandfather to Sarah (Aaron) Zalewski-Brown, Hannah (Colton) Layman, Stephanie (Cody) Askew, Zebedee (Maggie) Stambaugh, Midori Grabowski, Frankie Grabowski and Elizabeth Stambaugh; proud great-grandfather to Jaxson, Josie, Reverie, Helen and Sutton; extended family and many friends.

In celebration of his life, a private family service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2020 at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL, with Father Joseph Havrilka officiating.

Richard will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO, with full military rites conducted by the United States Army.
