Paula J. Johnson passed away peacefully at Trailpoint Village Nursing Home on December 27, 2019. She was born in South Bend, IN on April 1, 1967 to Lillie B. Mitchell and Willie Earl Tobar. She attended Riley High School. She was later certified in Child Daycare Management.

On February 25, 1995, Paula married Rev. Eugene R. Johnson. They were married for 13 years and raised two children, Jericka Johnson and Walter Turner. Paula was a member of and worked at the Lesea Christian Center Church ministries. She was a paraprofessional for South Bend Community Schools until she became ill. She loved children, she loved the Lord and she loved the Word.

Paula was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie B. Mitchell; stepmother Sheila M. Tobar; uncle Billy Mitchell, Sr.; Timothy Mitchell, nephews Daekwon Tobar, Darnel Tobar, Jr. and James Mitchell, Jr.

Paula is survived by her two children, Jericka Johnson of South Bend and Walter Turner of Elkhart, IN; stepchildren Damon Johnson of South Bend, Essence (Marko) Mosgrove and Tiffany Wright of Arkansas; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Diana (Elliot) Calahan of Dallas, TX; brother-in-law Lionel (Brenda) Johnson of South Bend; father Willie Earl Tobar; sisters Marquita (David) Bracy of Chicago, IL, Adria Tobar of Benton Harbor, MI; brothers Edward Tobar, Terrence (Vanessa) Tobar of Chicago, IL, William (Andrea) Tobar, Albert (Valisia) Tobar of South Bend, IN; as well as a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as friends.

Funeral services for Paula J. Johnson will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Palmer Funeral Homes - West Chapel, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN 46628. Friends may call on the family for visitation for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Rev. Eugene R. Johnson to officiate. Burial to follow at Highland Cemetery.
