Mr. Max Gene Rogers, age 84, of the Lynn Grove Community, Kentucky, died on Sunday, December 29, 2019, at his home.
Mr. Rogers was born on September 20, 1935, in Calloway County, Kentucky to the late Eugene Rogers and Emma Lee Camp Rogers. Max was a 1953, graduate of Lynn Grove High School and attended Murray State University. Mr. Rogers was a Firestone Tire store manager for 18 years and retired from Grocery Supply after 13 years as a logistics and transportation manager. He was an Army Veteran and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Murray, Kentucky where he was a former Sunday School Teacher. Max served as a part time local pastor in the United Methodist Church serving churches in Benton and Henry County, Tennessee as well as Hickman County, Kentucky. Since 2007, he was a beloved visitation and funeral attendant at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Max was a member of the Murray Masonic Lodge # 105, Eastern Star #433, and Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Williams Rogers; as well as his son-in-law, Gary Bryant.
Survivors include his daughter, Jana Rogers Bryant of Gallatin, Tennessee; sister, Diane Rogers Bach and husband Ed of Paducah, Kentucky; two grandsons, Glenn Dye and wife Kylie and Daniel Dye and Allison Joyce; five great-grandchildren, Ava Marie Dye, Aiden Shaffer, Abby Hathcock, and Weslan and Kennon Dye; one nephew, Eric Bach of Paducah, Kentucky; one niece, Emily Adams and husband Paul of Brentwood, Tennessee; as well as three cousins, Lisa Barlow and husband Gary of Murray, Kentucky, Beverly Shelton and family of Murray, Kentucky, and Margaret Thornberry and husband Jim of Madisonville, Kentucky.
A funeral service will be held at 11 :00 a.m., on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services with burial following in the Murray City Cemetery. Pastor Tim Palmer and Pastor Jeff Rudy will officiate. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, January 3, 2020, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., on Friday, January 3, 2020, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Active pallbearers will be the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home Staff which he considered his friends and second family.
