He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Donnie retired from George Koch and Sons after 37 years. He was inducted into both the Evansville and Indiana Softball Hall of Fame. Donnie loved playing the game of softball and was an avid golfer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Dorothy Groves.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nellie Groves; daughters, Donna Groves (Hille) and Cindy Gathings; grandson, Jay Hille; great grandchildren, Kade and Paige Hille; sister, Judy Avis (Clyde); niece, Laura Wing.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2020 at Alexander West Chapel officiated by Pastor Gene Backes with burial to follow in Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit 2-7 p.m. on Thursday January 2, 2020 and Friday 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
