Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late James Edward Gurley, Sr. and Essie Elaine Fields Gurley. He was a member of the Hamilton Masonic Lodge #403 A.F.M.

Surviving are: sons, Stevie Daniel Gurley (Hope) and Zackery Steven Gurley (Julie) both of Anderson; daughter, Sherry McCullough (Kenny) of Anderson; brother, Jimmy Gurley (Pat) of Belton; sister, Sheran Fisher (Doug) of Belton; grandchild, “His #1” Susanna McCullough; great grandchild, Zi’Kera Gurley.

Burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
