Maurice Montgomery Bell passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. He was born in Washington DC to Edward Janes Bell Jr. and Anne Francis Montgomery Bell on December 27, 1932. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Merlyn McMinimy Bell and their blended, inclusive family: Deborah (Lars), Andrew (Patricia), Lynn (James), Penelope, Sarah (Ben), Johanna (Robbin), 17 grandchildren, 5 great grand-children, an older brother and many nieces and nephews. He was a
deeply caring husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, uncle and friend. Maury's life's work was that of making our world a better place. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1956 and Harvard University Divinity School in 1964. His time as a minister lead him to numerous public projects as a community organizer and social change activist. His contributions created positive change through a variety of organizations including: University Congregational Church, Bellevue Congregational Church, United Church of Christ (the Metropolitan Association, New York Conference), Seattle Police Crime Prevention, and a wide variety of local planning groups. He had a deeply spiritual philosophy, a fierce love of all life, and an immense playful nature. We will miss his humor, his kindness, his love.
