Musician, Songwriter. Best known for his work with the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, The Rutles and collaborating with Monty Python, he was commonly referred to as "the Seventh Python." Raised in Germany, performed piano, guitar and vocals in The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band - later renamed The Bonzo Dog Band - who had a hit in 1968 with 'I'm the Urban Spaceman,' was co-produced by Apollo C. Vermouth - a pseudonym for Paul McCartney. Innes wrote the track 'Death Cab For Cutie,' which was used in The Beatles' 1967 film 'Magical Mystery Tour,' and later inspired the US band of the same name. In the '70s, he worked closely with British comedy troup Monty Python, by contributing sketches and songs like 'Knights of the Round Table' and 'Brave Sir Robin,' as well as appearing in their classic films 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' (1975) and 'Monty Python's Life of Brian.' He also wrote and performed sketches for their TV series 'Monty Python's Flying Circus'. In 1975, Innes collaborated with Eric Idle on his short-lived BBC-TV sketch show, 'Rutland Weekend Television,' which introduced the world to four shaggy-haired lads from Rutland called The Rutles, a parody of The Beatles, who were played by Innes (a parody of John Lennon), Idle ( as McCartney), John Halsey (as Ringo Starr) and Ricky Fataar (as George Harrison). The 1978 Lorne Michaels'-produced mockumentary 'All You Need is Cash', featured 14 songs penned by Innes on the soundtrack, including parodies like 'Ouch!,' 'Piggy in the Middle' and 'Another Day.' In 2008, a film was made about Innes called 'The Seventh Python.'
