Dale Huey Murphy, 82, of Marshall, IL passed away December 29, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born March 21, 1937 in Clark County, IL, the son of Dale C. and Eleanor Rosemary Huey Murphy. On May 10, 1959 he married Joyce Ann Smith at Baltimore, MD and she preceded him in death on May 3, 2010.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Beverly Pitman; two brothers, Steve and Mark Waller and a grandson-in-law, Denny Morris. Survivors include four daughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Martin, Vickie (Jeff) Wallace, Shawn Conrad all of Marshall, IL and Diane (Dale) Richey of Highland, IN; grandchildren, Chatlen Morris, Morgan Martin, Matthew Richey, Travis Richey, Erin (Tyler) Huelskamp, Amanda (Liz) Wallace, Mariah Wallace, Seth Conrad, Caleb (Chelsea) Conrad and Adam Conrad; thirteen great grandchildren; siblings, Sharon Cribelar of Martinsville, IL, Janice Wallace and Jerry (Loretta) Waller of Marshall, IL, and Peggy (Bud) Crafton of Knoxville, TN and a special friend, Barbara Hanks who he shared the last seven years of his life.

Special thanks to Shawn Conrad who was his main caregiver for the past seven months and also to Caleb and Chelsea Conrad who were so important in his care. Dale loved spending time with his family and took great pride in them. He loved people and it showed in his service to his community.

He treated his banking clients with respect and enjoyed seeing them reach their financial goals. He was a graduate of Marshall High School and served in the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, FL and then Portsmouth, WV and was honorably discharged after 4 years. He completed numerous banking courses from Indiana State University, the Wharton School University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, University of Illinois, American Institute of Banking of the University of Wisconsin. While in high school he worked as a farmhand. In 1960 he became a lending officer in Washington, DC. In 1962 he became AVP and Branch Manager at the Southland Branch of Terre Haute First Financial Bank for 13 years. From 1974 to 2001 he was the Chief Executive Officer and President of Dulaney Natl. Bank which later became Old National Bank at Marshall. From 2001 to 2014 he was a Credit Officer at Preferred Bank at Casey, IL. An active member of the community, he served on the Advisory Council of the MHS Vocational Education Program, Lifetime Member and Finance Officer of American Legion Post #90 of the American Legion, Board of Directors of the former Burnsides Nursing Home, member of Marshall Lions Club, Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Clark County Fair Board, Advisor of Wabash Valley Jr. Achievement, VP of the Wabash Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Banking, President of Terre Haute Credit Men’s Association, member of Marshall Jaycees, Board Member of Clark County Mental Health Board and coached girls softball for 16 years. He was the awarded of the Marshall Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award.

Services in honor of his life will be 10:00 AM Thursday at Pearce Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clark County Fair Association or to the Marshall Community Pool Fund.
