Troy David Arnold, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather was called home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2019 following a recent surgery and inpatient rehab. Troy was born in Wythe County, Virginia on April 21, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oakley Arnold and Rebecca Harmon and his siblings, Bonnie Arnold, and James Arnold.

Troy is survived by his loving wife MiJa; sons Robert Arnold (Barbara), and Troy Arnold; daughters Mary Harris (Robert Tutaj) and Barbara Arnold (Alan Wakefield); four grandsons, Chuck Wilson (Geni), Brian Wilson (Cortney), Dylan Arnold (Caylyne), Carl Arnold; five great grand-children, Henley, Delaney & Sydney Wilson, Charlie Wilson and Ezra Arnold. He is also survived by his siblings, Donald Arnold (Alberta), Sarah Horton, and Joyce Eller.

Troy spent much of his younger life in southwestern Virginia and at the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Army and served in many locations in the U.S. and around the world including Japan, South Korea, Germany and two year-long tours during the Vietnam conflict. During his overseas assignments in South Korea, he met and married his wife MiJa. Until his passing, they enjoyed their family – especially the 5 great grand-children. During Troy’s time in the U.S. Army service, he was awarded the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and the Purple Heart Medal. He was also a member of the Army pistol team where he and his highly ranked team earned high honors during competition. Troy’s precise shooting abilities distinguished him as a premier marksman. He later helped coach team members who became Olympic team participants. After Army retirement in 1974, Troy worked in the Pulaski area in several positions, one of which was for Radford University Police where he formed a pistol team who competed with similar organizations. Their team also earned high honors.

Troy was a recent resident of Virginia Beach, moving there in 2016 to be closer to his children and extended family for support. He was previously a long-time resident of Pulaski County where he grew up and which served as home base to and from his many military deployments. In addition to his family, one of his lifelong loves was fishing. Troy loved going out on his boat to find all the good fishing spots. Over the years, the family spent a lot of time fishing, skiing and picnicking at the best locations. While living in Pulaski, Troy was a member of New River Valley Baptist Church where he and MiJa attended regularly. They loved their fellow church members – especially the children.
