On Tuesday, Oct. 16, 1906, William H. Arnold, one of the early pioneers of Clark county, MO., passed to his reward from the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. W. Brown of Kahoka, Mo., being in the ninetieth year. He was born in Grant county, Ky., Nov. 21st, 1817, and when quite young came with an uncle to Clark county, landing at Alexandria in 1832. He was married to Nancy Wood, the only daughter of John Caleb Wood, of Monroe county, November 15, 1846. After his marriage he resided on a farm in Monroe county for a number of years, and at one time conducted a store at Old Clinton. In 1869 he moved with his family to Clark county and spent the remainder of his long and useful life at St. Francisville. He was the father of eleven children, seven of whom survive him. He also leaves his wife, now eighty years of age, sixteen grand children and three great grand-children, and a half brother, John Crooks of Rutledge, MO., to mourn his departure.
William Arnold was converted at an old fashion camp meeting held on Crooked Creek in Monroe county during the year 1856 under the ministry of Rev. B. H. Spencer. He united with the Methodist church and for these fifty years has been a consistent and faithful worker in God's kingdom. His neighbors respected him, and his family trusted and loved him. He lived long and well, and left to his family a noble heritage of a good character.
Rev. W. D. Neale conducted his funeral services at the home of his daughter, and his body was taken to St. Francisville and laid to rest until the morn of resurrection............. W. D. Neale
