FAIRPLAY, Md. – Theodore R. “Ted” Murray Jr., 91, of Fairplay, MD, passed away on Feb. 1, 2016, at Fahrney Keedy Home and Village.
Born in Pectonville, MD, he was the son of the late Theodore R. Sr. and Mary E. Hill Murray.
He and his wife were owners of Murray Sales and Service to the military exchanges on the East Coast, also Yokosuka, Iwakuni, Guam, Guantanamo Bay and Keflevik. In his retirement, he became an accomplished artist in landscape and lighthouses in water color. He was a member of the Valley Art Association, Franklin County Art Association and Cider Painters of America.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Lappans, where he served as a junior warden for 18 years. He also served on the vestry many times.
He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 65 years, Mary Lucille (Bitner) Murray; his brother, Wayson Murray Sr. (wife, Eleanor); sisters, Kathleen Delazio and Sondalee Shingleton; brothers-in-laws, Blaine Bitner (Joan) and Wayne Bitner, (Gloria); and many loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Willa Vaters and Roselyne Phillips, and brother-in-laws, Fred Delazio and Bob Shingleton.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Boonsboro, MD, on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Cemetery Boonsboro, MD.
