Mr. Jeff Herman Peterson, 72, of Monticello, MS passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at his residence. Jeff was born on October 7, 1946 in Louisville, MS to Marcus and Jessie Lee Smith Peterson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 9:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM at Monticello United Methodist Church with graveside services following in Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookhaven, MS. Bro. Mike Evans will officiate the services, with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Jeff graduated from Lawrence County High School in 1964. He was an outstanding athlete and continued his basketball career at Southwest Mississippi Community College before continuing his education at Mississippi State University. Jeff was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and received a Bachelor of Agriculture and Master of Agriculture while at State. After college, he served our country in the US Army, stationed in Germany. He worked as a real estate appraiser for over 35 years; twenty of those years were serving his community of Lawrence County as appraiser and Tax Assessor, before retiring from Madison County in 2016. Jeff was a member of Monticello United Methodist Church, where he was president of the Methodist Men for several years. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He is survived by his former spouse and mother of his children, Barbara Peterson and daughter, Amy Peterson of San Diego, CA; son, Jason Peterson and wife, Emily, of Hamilton, AL; sister, Beverly Stamps of Murfreesboro, TN; brothers, Wirt Peterson of Natchez, MS and Lyman Peterson of Monticello, MS; and eight grandchildren, Jaicob, Wesley, Zachary (Amy) and Miller, Sawyer, Hadley Cate, Thatcher and Campbell (Jason).
Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Mark Young Peterson.
