Boone County Democrat July 3, 1908

The remains of the late Ray Buzby, whose sad death in San Francisco was announced in our last issue, arrived over the Milwaukee Thursday morning. The details of his death are still lacking but it seems that he met his death at Fortieth and Cliff avenues that he was badly crushed and his spine injured. The presumption is that he was run over by a street car or vehicle while on his way from work. As yet no letter has been received from the coroner or secretary of the union to which he belonged. Until then the details will not be known. Raymond Alvah Buzby was born in Boonsboro May 28, 1876. He attended the Boonsboro schools and when fifteen years of age started to learn the printer's trade on the Republican under N.E. Goldthwaite. He worked at the trade in this city for a Number of years and for a time was employed on the Boone County Democrat. In 1901 he was employed in the rural mail service out of Boone for a time and in the fall of that year left for California. For some time he worked on the Loss Angeles Herald and later on the Los Angeles Examiner. In 1906 he went to San Francisco and worked on the Chronicle as linotype operator until the time of his death. He was a member of Typographical Union No. 21 of San Francisco and of the Franklin Club. To mourn his death are his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. George Buzby, of 103 West Eleventh street, three brothers, William of Marshalltown, John of Boone and Earl of South McAlester, Oklahoma, and one sister, Mrs. Grace Mitchell, of South McAlester, Oklahoma. The funeral will be held this Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the family residence 103 Eleventh Street. Rev. Cannom, of the Marion street M.E. church will officiate and the remains will be laid to rest in Linwood cemetery. Among those attending the funeral from abroad are Mrs. David Dale and Miss Lillian Dale of Des Moines, relatives, and J.B. McMillan, foreman of the Los Angeles Times. Mr. McMillian was in Des Moines when he heard of the death of Mr. Buzby, who formerly worked under him and came to Boone to attend the funeral.son of George and Melissa Buzby
