Died as a result of injuries sustained in the Gotha attack on Folkestone. He was the third son of William Stokes and Mary Chapman. He was in the family shop when the bomb fell injuring him and as a result he was housebound until his death in 1918, at 12 St John's Church Road Folkestone.
