He was a magician and died at 42 East Cliff Folkestone. In the Probate calendar he is 'of Charterhouse, London died 16th March 1917 at Moseley's Boarding Establishment, 40-42 East Cliff.' Probate was to Johannes Swaagman Darwen paper merchant. Effects £8845 10s. He was a professional magician, known as "Mons Henri" and "The Wizard of the West". Later he had a shop, The Magical Repository, at 95 Regent Street, London, selling magic apparatus. He also wrote a book, Descriptive Catalogue of Conjuring Tricks (1859) and "Spirit-Rapping Made Easy," a series of articles in Once a Week magazine(1860)which described how mediums could fake spirits. Mistranscribed on Ancestry burials as Novro.
