David Calloway, 65, of Smackover, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2019 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas.

David was born on June 28, 1954 to the late John W. and Dorothy Johnston Calloway. He was a graduate of Smackover High School and Southern Arkansas University. He worked for Gulf Oil in Houston, Texas, and later retired from Phillips Petroleum in Smackover. He was a member of Smackover Church of Christ and the NRA.

David loved his farm and his cows, dogs and chickens. He was an avid turkey hunter, and could even call like a real tom. He loved a good, old-fashioned Bible sermon. He even liked Christmas — enough to hang outdoor lights. But more than any of this, he loved his grandbabies: Landon, William, Bryson and Rosalie.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 36 years, Suzette Scott Calloway; son, Scott Calloway (Erin) of El Dorado; daughter, Sunny Stobaugh of Magnolia; daughter, Candice Calloway of Austin, Texas; brothers, Spencer Calloway of El Dorado and Ricky Calloway of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his Uncle Mike Calloway (Adrianne) of San Antonio, Texas, who was like a second father to him; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at Young’s Chapel on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Doyle Woodall officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the donor’s choice.
