The world lost an amazing soul this past weekend. Douglas Atkins passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019, at 58 years of age. Born August 4, 1961 in Jackson, MI. Beloved son, devoted husband, Father, Pa, and Da. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ken & Jean Maloney, John & Thelma Atkins. He is survived by his wife, Pennie Atkins, parents, Shirley Atkins, John (Nancy) Atkins, brothers, Dave (Linda) Atkins, Steve (Kay Fleming) Atkins, Tim (Wayne Gooding) Atkins, children, Heather Barrera-Ferguson, William (Tatiana) Parmele, grandson Masen Barrera-Ferguson, great granddaughter Madisen Barrera-Ferguson, granddaughter Ciara Fulk, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Doug graduated from Ferris State University in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in Accounting. He worked as a CPA and partner at Markowski & Co., CPAs in Jackson. Doug will be remembered for his never ending contributions to communities near and far, as he and Pennie participated annually in the Give Hope disaster relief program, starting in 2005, with their last trip being to Panama City, FL in June of 2019. Doug enjoyed coaching & officiating with youth and high school soccer organizations. Doug's greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his kids, grandkids & great granddaughter. A private burial attended by family has already taken place at Fifield Cemetery in Jackson, MI. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. www.chasjburden.com
