Lena W. Hancock Bristow, 92, was born Sept. 4, 1914, in Carthage, the daughter of the late George and Nora (Rudy) Grundy, passed away on May 16, 2007, in the home of her daughter, Marilyn Lucas. Lena was united in marriage to Jack Hancock on Feb. 9, 1941, and to this union six children were born. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1971. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Lena was a long time member of Hamlin Memorial Baptist Church and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; second husband, James Eldred Bristow; twin brother, Robert M. Grundy; sister Lavilla Tucker; brother Lewis "Bud" Grundy; and one grandson, Jerry Dean Hancock. Survivors include her children, James Hancock and wife, Janice, Thomas Hancock and wife, Rosemary, all of Springfield, Dianna Strother and husband, Don, of Purdy, Donald Hancock and wife, Diana of Jacksonville, Fla., Nora Buchheit and husband, Steve, and Marilyn Lucas and husband, James, all of Springfield; 16 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren; three sisters, Eva Metcalf and husband, Clayton, Helen Hamer and husband, Bob, and Ellen Woolley and husband, Kenneth; sister-in-law Norma Grundy; numerous other loving relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 19, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. in the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home Chapel at Midtown with interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.
