Betty Lou Jean Loyd, born in Electra, Texas May 6, 1932 to parents John and Laura (Anderson) Shipman, passed away in Hico, Texas December 27, 2019 at age 87. Betty was best known as “Betty Lou” or “Granny Lou” by her friends and family. Betty loved picture photographs, doing genealogy for her family and friends. She loved bluegrass as well as other types of music. Betty passed on her love for music to her family. Betty sang and played the guitar on the radio in Wichita Falls when she was 6 years old.
Betty Lou grew up in the Electra, Texas, moving to Hico in 1964 with her husband, raising 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. Betty worked in the Hico School Cafeteria for 2 years before working as a Medication Aid at Hico Village Nursing Home for over 30 years, retiring in 1997 to take care of her husband, Raymond.

Preceding Betty in death are her parents, husband Raymond Loyd, daughter Debbie Loyd, and six siblings.

Surviving Betty are daughters Charlotte Mayfield and husband Ronnie of Stephenville, Dena Mitchell of Florida, grandchildren; Wendy Reinke and husband Greg of Mansfield, Jill Owens and James Sant of Hico, Jamie Elmore and wife Becky of Louisiana, Chasity Elmore, Jeanna Bradley, Sunny and Steve Rule of Maryland, 25 great-grandchildren.
