Richard "Wayne" McConnell, 67, of the Mazeppa Community, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017. He was born on January 20, 1950 in Mooresville, to the late Richard and Mae Wilson McConnell. Wayne was a graduate of West Rowan High School and Nashville Auto Tech. He was one out of five generations that farmed his family's land. He was a member of the National Guard. Wayne retired from M&M Truck and Equipment Repair, and later retired from Freightliner. He was a lifelong member of Triplett United Methodist Church in Mooresville. He is survived by his son, Rusty McConnell and wife, Stephanie; brothers, Norris McConnell and wife, Donna, Dale McConnell and wife, Judy; grandson and the light of his life, Luke McConnell; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 18 from 10:00-11:30 AM with a service following at 11:30 AM at Triplett United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Richard Auten officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Triplett United Methodist Church, 838 Mazeppa Road, Mooresville, NC 28115.
