Born and died in Corotoman, Lancaster Co.,VA to Robert "King" Carter and 2nd wife Elizabeth "Betty" (Landon) Carter. 9 siblings. He died before his Mother (1719) and is buried near her. He is named for his paternal grandmother Sarah (Ludlow) Carter.

Part of the inscription on top of the monument for Betty Landon Carter (the second wife of Robert "King" Carter) is as follows: "She bore her husband ten children five sons and five daughters three of whom SARAH, BETTY and LUDLOW died before her and are buried near her."

This is a photograph of the tomb for Elizabeth Carter, the mother of Ludlow Carter (one of ten children she had with her husband) and the second wife of Robert "King" Carter. The brass plate is located at the foot of the tomb that has the inscription that is identical to what is written on the top of the tomb.

This a photograph of the top of the tomb where Ludlow Carter is mentioned. The original top of the tomb (made of limestone) is in the museum, the replacement is of granite, but the wording is identical to the original

According to Robert J. Teagle, Curator of Historic Christ Church, its uncertain if Ludlow Carter is buried WITH his mother, or NEAR her, as indicated on the monument. Also, there are references in historical records to Ladlowe Carter who may be identical. But the photograph is on a brass plate at the foot of the tomb (the middle of three) that is identical in wording to what was originally placed on the slab on the top of the monumnent to Elizabeth Carter. Further information may be obtained by contacting the Historic Christ Church at www.christchurch1735.org.
