BELLINGHAM - Robert W. Lewis, 71, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Milford Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the husband of Diane (Linnell) Lewis for 48 years. They were married on May 29, 1959.
Born in Milford, the son of the late Eldred F. and Rose Marie (Casali) Lewis. He was a resident of Bellingham for 40 years and was formerly of Blackstone and Milford, where he was born and raised. He attended St. Mary's School in Milford.
He worked for Golden Meadow Ice Cream as a driver and salesman in Medway for 22 years, until retiring in 1979 due to illness. Later, he worked as a funeral assistant for Cartier's Funeral Home in Bellingham.
He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He obtained the rank of corporal and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a volunteer for the Adult Care Center and St. Blaise Food Pantry in Bellingham. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Besides his wife, he leaves his sons, Robert W. Lewis Jr. and his wife, Dona (Giordano), of Sharon and Paul J. Lewis of Bellingham; his daughter, Linda L. Cartier and her husband, Francis E., of Bellingham; grandchildren, Courtney L., Ryan F., Lauren N. Cartier of Bellingham and Ethan T. and Ian B. Lewis of Sharon; a brother, Joseph J. Lewis of Franklin; a sister, Pearl M. Duprey and her husband, Pliny, of Ellington, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of Paula M. Lewis, who died Sept. 24, 1991.
The funeral will be held Saturday, July 14, at 9 a.m., from Cartier's Funeral Home, 151 South Main St., with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m., in St. Blaise Church, 1158 South Main St.
Burial will be at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, July 13, from 5 to 8 p.m.
