Bro. Glenn Denton, longtime pastor of the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon, conducted the Tuesday morning December 24th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed the 11 a.m. services in Section three at the Ridgewood Cemetery.
He was born Gary Wayne Madewell in Carthage on March 24, 1981 and was the son of Kathy Ann Madewell Jones of the Enigma Community and Joseph Thomas Penland Sr. of Winter Park, Florida.
His step-father, Cookeville native William Edward “Big Ed” Loftis, preceded him in death on February 14, 2014 at the age of 45.
He was a former employee of D. T. McCall & Sons in Carthage and Trailer Manufacturing Inc.
He was a 1999 graduate of Haslam High School in Knoxville.
Surviving in addition to his mother and father are two daughters, Brenna Madewell of Glasgow, Kentucky, Trinity Madewell of Carthage; grandchildren, Dusty Madewell and Oakland Madewell; siblings, Jason Jones of Baxter, Melinda Brown and husband Josh of the Turkey Creek Community, Matthew Taylor of Carthage, Joseph Penland of Carthage Barbara Marie LaFevers and husband Corey of Manchester, Camalia Jo Bingham and husband Josh of Blairsville, Georgia.
