Obituary for Mrs. Jean J. Butler
Jean J. Butler, 91, a lifelong resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 9:20 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2019 at her home.
Mrs. Butler was born May 12, 1928, in Columbus, the loving daughter of Charles I. and Florence Marie Russell Carmichael. On September 3, 1950, in Columbus, Jean married James N. Butler; he preceded her in death November 26, 2010.
Mrs. Butler was a 1946 graduate of Columbus High School. A homemaker, Mrs. Butler was very devoted to her family.
Mrs. Butler attended First Christian Church and First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Columbus Chapter #339, Columbus Assembly No. 226 Social Order of the Beauceant and Alice Court No. 30 Order of the Amaranth. Mrs. Butler was a charter member of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls Columbus Assembly No. 15.
Mrs. Butler is survived by her children, Karen (M. Eugene) Hall of Carbondale, Illinois, Charles (Martha) Butler of Columbus, J. Kevin Butler of Columbus and Rebecca (Steve) Weimer of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; grandchildren, Angela Butler of Houston, Texas, Christiana Butler of Gilroy, California, Alexa (Jarrett) McGriff of Atlanta, Georgia, Caley Lambert of Fostoria, Ohio, Cameron (Becca) Lambert of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Roman Lambert of North Lauderdale, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marie Carmichael; her husband, James N. Butler; and a brother, Max Carmichael.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2019 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Michael Hogg will officiate. The eulogist will be her son, J. Kevin Butler and prayers will be given by Milo Smith and the Rev. Howard Boles.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday.
An Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.
Mrs. Butler will be laid to rest next to her husband at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or First United Methodist Church Music Fund.
