Jack was born in Sanford, Florida and grew up in Lattimore, North Carolina. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and later retired from both the Air National Guard and Greyhound Bus Lines.

Jack met the love of his life, Martha, shortly after returning from the war and was married two years later. He had four beautiful children: Debbie, Sandra, Brenda and Donald.

Jack enjoyed his semiretired life camping, fishing and spending time with his family.

Jack leaves his memory to be cherished by his loving wife, Martha; his two daughters Brenda Ash (Russell), Sandra Johnson and son-in-law, Steve Norman; grandchildren: Teresa Norman (Matthew), Melissa Norman, Brandy Johnson, Clint Johnson (Cindy), Amanda Kimball (Andrew), Colton Ash (Beth) and Claudia Ash; and nine great grandchildren.

He was adored by all who knew him and will be remembered for all the love and laughter he brought to the world.

Services will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210 with the family greeting friends beginning at 11 am, and the funeral service at 1 pm. Burial will follow immediately at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 7407 Steele Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC 28217.
