Mildred was born Feb. 18, 1926 in Liberty, Mo. to William and Mary (Carey) Sarver. She grew up in Kansas City, where she married Lee Phipps on October 22, 1945. They moved to Joplin in 1963. With Lee, she owned and operated Varsity School Supply from 1966 to 1982, and later worked for Snyder Bridge Co. Mildred was a member of First United Methodist Church of Joplin and the Tri-M Sunday School Class.
Prior to her death, she was a resident of St. John's Mercy Village, where she developed many special friendships in recent years. She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing, and enthusiastically supported her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lee, on December 2, 1991, and a sister, Martha.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Kloeckener and her husband Mark, two sons, Dale Phipps and his wife Brenda, and Mark Phipps and his wife Jane, all of Joplin, a sister in law, Doris Owens, Joplin, 9 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 24th. at First United Methodist Church in Joplin with Rev. David Fitzmaurice officiating. There will be reserved seating for the Tri-M Sunday School Class, and residents of Mercy Village.
Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with grandsons, and great grandsons serving as pallbearers. Memorial contributions are requested for the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
