Gracie attended People's School during her elementary years and then graduated from Marceline High School in 1948. After graduation, she moved to Chicago, IL, where she worked for the Bell Telephone Company. She began as a operator then moved on to supervisor. While in Chicago, she met Orval Allen Thompson and was married on August 5, 1951 in Bucklin, MO. They continued to live in Chicago then moved to Kansas City where their daughter, Barbara Lynn was born in January 1965. They then decided to purchase Orval's family farm. They stayed on the farm raising sheep, dairy and beef cattle for 40+ years. She then moved to be with her daughter and son in law in 2009.
Gracie enjoyed a variety of crafts, including needle point, quilting and crocheting, which she enjoyed giving as gifts. She also enjoyed singing and gardening. Gracie loved flowers, especially African Violets. She was very involved in her daughters school activities, including being the president of the PTO and attending many basketball games and track meets. She was a member of the Baker Christian Church for over 50 years. She loved her church family and the surrounding church families. She enjoyed helping and teaching VBS at the Winigan Christian Church. Gracie liked to stay active and was involved in many social clubs within the church and the community.
Gracie Lou Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Orval; her parent's, John and Gracie Drew;6 siblings, Elnora Burnett, Irene Ratliff, Mellie Pellegrini, Merta Malloy, J.R. Davis and infant, Lorianne Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Boggs and her husband Daniel; two siblings, Aldeana Bailey, Dellie Thompson; nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.
Visitation for Mrs. Thompson will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, at Winigan Christian Church in Winigan, MO. Funeral services will also be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 beginning at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at the Baker Cemetery. Memorial donations are preferred to the Shiloh Children's Home or Baker Cemetery c/o Martin Funeral Home, 510 East Main Street, Warrenton, MO 63383
