Elkanah Cushman was born in Plymouth, 13 November 1741, the son of Elkanah Cushman and Lydia Bradford.
He was a founding member of the Old Colony Club in 1769, and served as its Steward and Treasurer until the dissolution of the Club in 1773.
He married Mary Lathrop. They had a son, Elkanah Cushman, born 1 June 1769.
He was a Loyalist, who evacuated with General Gage from Boston to Halifax in 1776.
"List of the inhabitants of Boston, who on the evacuation by the British, in March, 1776, removed to Halifax with the army" included from the Custom House: "Elkanah Cushman, Tidesman, 1 [travelled alone, without his family]". He died in exile.
