On the evening of December 16th, 2019, while at home surrounded by her family, Mrs. Edna Mae Vaughn was called home to be with her Lord and Savior.
She was a beloved and faithful wife of The Rev. Dr. James M. Vaughn of Duncan and of her late husband and the father of her children, Robert "Bob" Akers.
Edna Mae was born on November 19, 1942, in Dacusville, SC to the late Troy P. Galloway and Sarah E. (Hamet) Galloway.
Edna was a devoted wife and loving mother who worked tirelessly to keep her house clean and organized for her family. As a homemaker, she excelled in baking and cooking. In support of her husbands' careers in the US Military and in Mission Work, Edna Mae enjoyed world travel visiting several countries and living for many years in Italy, Germany, and Brazil.
Edna was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville for over 23 years and was active in the Auditorium Sunday School Class.
Along with her husband, Melvin, her memory is forever cherished by her children, Stefania Blackstock and her husband John, David Akers and his wife Lisa, Wayne Akers and his wife Cindy, all of Greenville; step-children, Rebecca Ray and her husband Jim of Henderson, NC, James M. Vaughn, Jr. and his wife Ellen of North Myrtle Beach, Rev. Charles M. Vaughn and his wife Peggy of Brazil, Paul Jacob Vaughn and his wife Michelle of Henderson, NC; a host of adored grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Edna also leaves her brother, Charles Alvin Galloway of Pickens and his family.
In addition to her parents and husband Bob, Edna Mae was predeceased by three sisters and a brother.
A visitation will be held Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Her funeral service will be Friday, December 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 3931 White Horse Rd., Greenville with entombment following in the Mountain View Memorial Park Mausoleum, Traveler's Rest.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tabernacle Children's Home, 3931 White Horse Rd., Greenville, SC 29611.
