Dorothy loved Jesus Christ the Lord and was confidently looking forward to being in His presence. She was a long-time member of Oak Hill Evangelical Free Church, now known as Oak Hill Bible Fellowship Church and a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Class. She taught in the Tuesday morning Bible Study Class and Vacation Bible School. Dorothy was a graduate of Bramwell’s Business College and worked at Deaconess Hospital in Medical records. She loved working with youth groups such as Brownies, Cub Scouts and Camp Fire Girls. Dorothy loved spending time with her grandchildren hosting “Tea Parties” for the younger ones. She loved Bible Study, reading, bird watching, gardening, boating and camping.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Elmer Benkert, her son, John Gary Buchanan in Vietnam in 1970, and her husband, John, in 2002.
Dorothy is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Jim Bright; daughter-in-law, Nancy Buchanan; grandchildren, Melissa (Tory) Swanson, Stacey (Joel) Weyrick, Joshua (Candace) Bright, Caleb (Kelsey) Bright, Nicole (Warren) Campbell, and Chad (Laura) Barclay. She had ten great grandchildren that she greatly enjoyed.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Rev. Cliff Herring, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Published in Courier Press, December 18, 2019.
