Richard Eugene Watkins, 71, of Whitestown, passed away on Dec. 15, 2019, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 20, 1948 in Spelter, West Virginia; a son of the late Robert Watkins and Edna Norris
Mr. Watkins attended High School in West Virginia. Following school, he served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and earned his high school diploma during his service in the military. In November of 1997, he was married to Kinisha (Harwood) Watkins in Noblesville. Mr. Watkins worked for the Railroad and later Firestone in Noblesville; retiring in 1998.
He was a member of the Lebanon VFW and Noblesville American Legion. He enjoyed socializing with neighbors and friends, camping, fishing and hiking. He also had a love for nature by feeding and watching birds and squirrels from his porch and living room window.
Survivors include his wife, Kinisha Watkins of Whitestown; brother, Bruce Watkins of West Virginia; children, Jeff Watkins of Alabama, Tonya Westmoor of Indiana, Josh Watkins of Lebanon, and Thomas “Tommy” Watkins of Carmel; stepchildren, Josh Owens of Whitestown, Amanda Boone of Terhun, Heather Koshenina of Remington; 18 grandchildren; three great grandchildren
Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Nathan Watkins; and several siblings.
Services with Military Rites are scheduled to be held at 4 p.m. on Dec. 19, 2019 at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street in Lebanon. Family and friends may pay their respects from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home in Lebanon prior to services. Boone County Crematory has been entrusted with his cremation arrangements.
