John Andrew Pendergrass, 83, died Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Maria Parham Health. Born in Warren County on May 22, 1936, he was the son of the late Jesse Lee Pendergrass and Minnie Coley Pendergrass.
He was employed with Pine State and was a member of North Henderson Baptist Church for more than 60 years, serving as a Deacon, member of the Dave Stokes Sunday School Class where he served as secretary, choir member, and served his church wherever he was needed.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at 2:00 PM at North Henderson Baptist Church by the Rev. Matthew Hirt and the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Fannie Moss Pendergrass of the home; two daughters, Sherry P. Ross of Henderson and Barbara Overby (Jane) of Chapel Hill; one son, John Andrew Pendergrass, II (Tammy) of Henderson; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three sisters, Peggy Drewer of Chesapeake, Virginia; Joyce Stone of Henderson, and Nancy Bartolo of Swea City, Iowa; and one brother, Bennie Pendergrass of Creedmoor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Eric Malone Pendergrass; two sisters, Betty Tart and Mary Brame; and two brothers, J. T. Pendergrass and Joe Pendergrass.
The family will receive friends Wednesday before the service from 12:00 till 1:50 PM at North Henderson Baptist Church fellowship hall and at other times at the home. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Kenneth John Abbott, Jeremy Abbott, Joseph Abbott, Derek Andrew Pendergrass, Justin Pendergrass, John Hunter Pendergrass, and Jason Abbott.
