Donnie Ray Young, 83, of Independence, MO passed away December 15, 2019 at the Groves Health and Rehab Center. He was born on March 17, 1936 to Jesse and Stella Galena Young in Protem, MO. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1991. He worked there for 30 years. He was the husband of Barbara Lee (Price) Young. They married on May 19, 1956, at the Jackson County Courthouse. They spent 63 years together.
Donnie always loved his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They always brought a huge smile to his face. Even on those days that he wasn’t feeling well.
He loved hunting and fishing with his sons, camping with family, puzzles, crossword puzzles, gardening, Royals baseball, and Nascar racing.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Young, his sons Dennis Young (wife, Vikki Young), Ryan Young (wife, Amy Young), Craig Young and daughter Donna Miller (husband Ron Miller), his 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and brother Carl Young.
He was predeceased by his dad Jesse Young and mom Stella Galena Young, his brothers Ocie Young, J.T. Young, his sisters Irlma Bray, Neva Ford, Leva Moore, Bermetta Dean, and Hazel Ridinger.
The services will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. S., Independence, MO 64055 on December 21, 2019. It will be led by Pastor Russel Thomas. The visitation will be from 1-2pm The funeral will be at 2pm. The burial will follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery on Salisbury Road, Independence, MO 64056.
