Richard L. “Dick” Poole, 86, of Reno passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 4, 1933, in Reno, a son of Homer D. and Genevieve Wiggins Poole.

He married Bessie Skinner Poole who preceded him in death in 2005. He loved and missed her so.

Dick attended Sandhill School and Marietta High School. He enjoyed the reunions with his Sandhill friends. He was employed by Pattin Manufacturing, Washington County Highway Department, and Metaltech Corp. The relationships with his co-workers were very important to Dick and he enjoyed getting together with them, even into retirement. He was a longtime member of Reno Memorial Christian Church and more recently, Christ Kindred Church. He was proud member of American Union Lodge #1 of the Masons, a charter member of the Reno Volunteer Fire Department, and a Marietta Township Trustee. In retirement, he delivered meals for Franciscan Meals and mowed many lawns.

Dick is survived by two daughters, two sons, and their spouses: Carmen Vanscoy and her husband, Danny, of Hilliard, OH, Beth Kitts of Columbus, OH, Donald Poole and his partner, Judge Mattocks, Jr., of Houston, TX, and Richard W. Poole of Marietta; six grandchildren: Danny Paul (Chantel) Vanscoy, Jay Vanscoy, Abbey (John) Kromhout, Jenny (Andy) Reiser, Colleen (Juan) Sosa, and Julianna (Aaron) Poole-Sawyer; and eight great grandchildren: Jordan, Grace, and Dani Vanscoy, Michael, Gabriella, and Ali Kromhout, and Teddy and Olive Reiser. He is also survived by his sister and longtime neighbor, Betty Bradford, for whom his children are particularly grateful for her love and support throughout the years. He had many nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention, but he loved them dearly.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald Poole and sisters, Rose Abicht and Patricia Clark.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 19, at 11:00 a.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with his son, Dick Poole, officiating. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 18, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Dick often expressed great gratitude for his many friends and neighbors. The family would like to especially thank Kathaleen Harper for the care she gave Dick in his last few years.
