Samuel Franklin Baker, Sr., 79, of Fort Hill, PA, died Friday, December 13, 2019, at home surrounded by his family.
Born September 7, 1940, in Meyersdale, PA, he was the son of the late Franklin and Martha (Keefer) Baker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Judy Colleen (Bittinger) Baker, November 7, 2015; two sisters, Gracie Baker and Betty Kimball.
After living in Salisbury for 30 years, Sam moved to Mt. Davis to farm and later retired from the Carpenters Union. Along the way he met a lot of special friends and neighbors who helped him a lot over the years. His favorite pastime was sitting on the porch with his dog Jack and he was always whistling. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by two sons, Samuel Baker, Jr., Somerset, PA; Gary (Tonya) Baker, Osterburg, PA; two daughters, Karen Batie and Terri Pendergrass, both of Fort Hill; four grandchildren, Skylar Batie, Ashley (Andrew) Durst, Anthony Pendergrass and Teija (Maynard) Hall; five great-grandchildren, Maddison, Collyn, Tylah, Mason and Ryatt; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Hwy., Salisbury, PA, on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mert Maust officiating. Interment will be in the Salisbury Cemetery.
