Tentatively, Nora was the daughter of William and Susan Ward, who were married on or about October 12, 1864, in Brown County, Illinois. In various documents, Susan's maiden name was recorded as Pile, Piles and Pyles. It appears that both William and Susan died prior to the census of 1880 (burial locations unknown) and the family was broken up. Again, this relationship to these parents is tentative, because Nora was never counted with them and she wasn't with her elder half-brother, James Willis Ward, in 1880. Her elder full brothers, Charles and Edward, were counted with James.~The Quill, page 8

Nora B. Ward was born at Mt. Sterling, Ill., August 7th, 1872; died at Burnside, Feb. 26th, 1893, aged 20 yrs., 6 months and 19 days. She was married to James W. Sharpe, April 8th, 1888. To them were born two children, Frank [sic - Gertrude] aged four years, and Bertha not quite two years of age. Mrs. Sharpe died very suddenly. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Roe, at the M. E. church. At the close of the sermon the brethren and sisters of Burnside Chapter, No. 223, O. E. S. conducted the ritual ceremony of the order, in memory of the deceased sister, of which order she was a member. Interment at La Harpe cemetery. The bereaved husband and little children have the sympathy of their many friends.
