Garden City - Mr. William S. Anderson, 70, died on September 17, 2005, at his home. Mr. Anderson was born in Tattnall County and was a member of the Connors Baptist Church in Cobbtown. He moved to Garden City in 1956 and retired from Union Camp in 1996 after working there for 41 years. He was an amateur radio operator who used his skills to help in rescue efforts and contact family members overseas. He was an avid Civil War enthusiast and enjoyed metal detecting for civil war artifacts. Proud of his heritage, he researched his ancestors and passed on that pride to his sons and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Anderson, and a brother, Bob Anderson. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Susan Brantley Anderson of Garden City; three sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Frances Anderson of Pooler, Eric and Deborah Anderson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mitch and Dawn Anderson of Marietta; three grandchildren, Amber Mason of Port Wentworth, Luther Anderson of Pooler and Tyler Anderson of Marietta; his mother, Eudell Anderson of Cobbtown; a sister, Sandra Burroughs of Cobbtown; a brother, Winston Anderson of Cobbtown; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2005. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Memorial Service immediately following in the chapel of the funeral home. Remembrances may be sent to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416. The family strongly encourages people to protect themselves from the sun and have regular skin cancer screenings.
