Effie Lee Murphy of Liberty died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. She was 89.
Born on Sept. 25, 1919 in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Betty Pettyjohn Lay.
She was a homemaker, retired from Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville, and a member of Noels Chapel Church of God. She was the widow of Murl Murphy.
Survivors include three daughters, Novella Phillips of Liberty, Mildred (and Verlin Dee) Monday of Indiana, and Charolette (and Michael) Cochran of Lawrenceburg; four sons, Michael (and Marc) Murphy of Indiana, Walter (and Robin) Murphy of Elkhorn, Donald Murphy of Campbellsville and Teddy (and Monica) Murphy of Indiana; 33 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Murphy of Indiana.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Lee Murphy; six grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Dorthy Hicks, Elsie Wethington, Louisa Dryer, and Edna Clements; and three brothers, John, Clifford and Raymond Lay.
Funeral services were April 27 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Bro. Bobby Eldridge and Bro. Homer Whited. Burial was in Caney Fork Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Murphy, Tracie Phillips, Michael Murphy, Walter Murphy, Donald Murphy, Teddy Murphy, Jason Murphy, Josh Murphy, and Verlin Dee Monday.
