Obituary: Richard W. “Dick” Bean, Sr., 85 of Cowen passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born December 20, 1933 in Barnum, WV and was the son of the late Floyd Bean and Lela Virginia White Bean. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Darlene Bean and also five brothers. Dick was a United States Marine Corp Veteran. He was a Christian and attended Emmanuel Assembly of God, Upperglade. Dick loved driving log trucks, bluegrass music, sitting on the porch watching the birds, cooking Thanksgiving Dinner, riding his lawnmower, traveling with his son in law Jesse and more than anything he enjoyed quality family time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Joy Hinkle Bean; children, Bertie (Jesse) Bennett, Bob Bean, Jeannie (Paul) Brulinski, Patty (Jerry Lewis) Bean, Dickie Bean, Paul Bean, Kristel (Richie Hinkle) Bean and Keri (Michael) Travis; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, John (Rose) Bean; best friends, Jesse Bennett and Buddy Riffle and also many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Service will be 7:00 PM, Tuesday ,December 17th at Adams-Reed Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Marty Cowger officiating. Friends may join the family for visitation 5:00 PM until time of service. Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen with Pastor Bob Friend officiating followed by Military Honors by American Legion Post #62.
