Obituary for Mother Lula Scott
Our Dear and Beloved Mother-Lula departed from this life and took a Heavenly flight on December 15, 2017, stepping
into eternity to join her awaiting family,
Our Precious Mother Lula was born on June 18, 1927 in Attala, Mississippi to Lillie and Tommy Anderson. She was the
eldest of five siblings. Being the eldest child, Lula held the responsibility of caring for her younger brothers and sisters. Mother
Lula attended school in her hometown.
Lula and Willie Scott were united in holy matrimony in Holmes County, Mississippi. While attending a Pentecostal church
under the leadership of Elder H. Johnson, Mother Lula accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and began what would be a
lifelong devotion to the church.
Mother Lula and Willie Scott decided to relocate to the North in 1956 in search of better opportunities in education,
employment, and housing for their children. They decided to make their home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Mother Lula retired from Shorewood High School and Atwater Elementary School after over thirty years of dedicated service.
Mother Lula was a faithful member of Emmanuel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Flakes for
many years. She held several positions in the church including deaconess, secretary, Sunday School Teacher, and Mother of
the Church. She also led praise and worship and testimony services. During her later years, she was a faithful member of Holy
Sanctuary Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor R. Lewis. Mother Lula was a strong woman. She had an
inner strength that was developed by going through the storms of life and placing her faith and trust in the Lord. She always
strived to please the Lord in her words and in her actions. Mother Lula always kept the Bible in her home opened to Psalm
23. She loved reading and studying her Bible and Sunday School book and enjoyed singing to the Lord at home and in the
church. Mother Lula was a prayer warrior. She would constantly stay before the Lord, holding up her children and asking God
to keep, protect and guide each one.
Mother Lula received a Diploma of Graduation in Real Truth Bible Study in 1982, and a Certificate of Appreciation for
excellence as Y.P.W.W. Secretary in 1991.
Mother Lula was multi-talented and skillful in different areas. She was a skilled seamstress who made dresses for her youngest
daughters. She did alterations, quilting, and she was a whiz at putting in zippers and button holes. She was an excellent cook.
Her specialties included sweet potato pies, fried apple pies, cakes, greens, blueberry muffins and chicken dressing. She could
whip up a scrumptious meal in no time. She also had a green thumb in gardening. She grew greens, tomatoes, and squash.
Whatever she planted, it always came up. Mother Lula loved having a bouquet of fresh flowers on her table.
Mother Lula had a unique sense of humor and loved to hear a good clean joke. She was a stylish dresser with an eye for
coordinating colors and she liked to accessorize with scarves and jewelry.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took special delight in seeing all of her
family gathered during holidays and backyard barbecues.
Mother Lula loved to travel and see different locations. She visited Washington D.C. with her church. One memorable
vacation was going with her daughter, Lula Mae to San Diego, California and across the border to Mexico. She traveled to
Florida with family members and enjoyed site-seeing in the sunshine state. She traveled to Manhattan, Kansas to spend time
with her youngest daughter, Alberta while she was living there. Close to home, Mother Lula regularly enjoyed going to 7-Mile
Fair. She loved looking at the trinkets, knickknacks, merchandise and always bought fruit to take back home.
During her later years, Mother Lula lived independently. She wanted to do for herself as long as God gave her the strength
to do so.
Mother Lula was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie and Tommy Anderson; husband, Willie Scott; three sisters, Edna
Mae Howard, Lillie Mae Anderson, and Edna Mae Carson; and three brothers, J.C. Anderson and James Anderson, all of
Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Joe Willie of Chicago, Illinois.
Mother Lula leaves behind to cherish her memories and to celebrate her heavenly homegoing: seven daughters, Lula Mae,
Frances, Rosie, Ida, JoAnn, Mary, and Alberta; three sons, Percy, Willie Ray Jr. and Leander all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin;
fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces great-nephews, cousins,
and many life-long friends.
