Norma Jean (Jeannie) Edwards formerly of Springfield, MO, passed away on December 10, 2019, at Parc Provence in Creve Coeur, M0, after a long illness. Jeannie suffered from dementia and was a resident at Parc Provence since 2008. Jeannie was born on October 18, 1929, in West Plains. Her family moved extensively throughout southern Missouri, eventually settling in Lebanon.

She married Gene Edwards of Lebanon in November 1948, and they moved to Springfield for Gene to finish his undergraduate degree at Southwest Missouri State. Gene went to work at Southwest Missouri State in 1950 and retired in 1990. In 1978, Jeannie went to work at the University Library and retired after 15 years of service as a clerk/secretary.

Gene passed away in 2007, and Jeannie who was already suffering from dementia, moved to St. Louis to live with her son, Dana and his wife, Sharon. After a hospitalization, it became apparent that Jeannie needed additional care for her progressing dementia, and she moved to Parc Provence.

While at Parc Provence, Jeannie developed a keen interest in art. She was proud to have a painting of her’s featured at Washington University in St. Louis. A gallery of her artwork was established by the family at the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in 2013.

She is survived by her brother, Jan of Lenexa, KS; and her son, Dana (Sharon) of Webster Groves, MO; grandchildren, John (Caitlin) of El Paso, TX, Jacob of San Diego, CA, Jennifer of Webster Groves; and many nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Greater MO Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Missouri State University Foundation, where the Edwards’ Family Scholarship was established. If you prefer, please donate to your favorite charity. One of Jeannie’s favorite charities was the Salvation Army.
