Obituary for Mrs. Ernestine Thompson
Ernestine Thompson was born January 7, 1943 to the union of
Annie Laura Shelbourne and Thomas Jefferson Witherspoon in
St. Louis, Missouri. Ernestine received her formal education
from the Milwaukee Public School System attending North
Division High School and graduated from Summer High School
in Saint Louis, Missouri with famous classmate Arthur Ashe
(tennis player).
Ernestine accepted Christ at an early age and most recently
attended Love Tabernacle Church under the leadership of
Pastor Atwater.
Ernestine was united in holy matrimony to David Thompson
in July 1971 in Milwaukee, WI. Their union was blessed with
five children - Jalisa, David Jr., Christel, Christopher and
Diane.
Ernestine had several jobs throughout her career including, St
Anthony Hospital, George Watts Tea Shop, Disabled Veterans
Center and her last position was at the VA Medical Center.
In her leisure time, Ernestine enjoyed attending sewing and
craft classes at Washington Park Senior Center, searching out
a good rummage sale with family and friends, and visiting
family every chance she could. Ernestine loved the Lord and
enjoyed serving in the church. She would often pass out
bibles and help feed the needy. Singing was another one of
Ernestine's gifts. She was often requested to sing a solo for
her family, friends, and church. Always thinking of others,
Ernestine would often call to check on her friends and
family. Most of a" she enjoyed spending time with her
children and grandchildren telling them about God and the
benefits of eating their fruits and vegetables.
Ernestine departed this life on December 30,2017. Her
parents Annie Laura Shelbourne and Thomas Jefferson
Witherspoon, and brother Anthony Levada Shelbourne
preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: husband David
Thompson, Sr.; five children: Jalisa (Clarence) Manns, David
Thompson Jr., Christel Thompson, Christopher (Rashida)
Thompson, and Diane Thompson. Eight grandchildren:
Keven, Tianna, Rahmad, Sandhya, Christopher, Saliha, Fairyn
and Brooke; one sister Artieste (Steven) Johnson-Shelbourne; one brother John Shelbourne; sisters-in-law: Bobby Thompson, Marie Gillesple-Gullv, Peggy (Stanley) West, and Ernestine Gillespie: brothers-in-law: Charles
(Jessie) Gillespie, Lester (Pam) Gillespie and Terry Gillespie:
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
