CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Rebecca (Becky) Nelson, 83, formerly of Abingdon, Illinois, died Dec. 12, 2019, at the home of her daughter in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with her son and daughter at her side.
Becky was born June 28, 1936, in Knoxville, Illinois, the daughter of Dewey and Louise (Smith) Anderson. She married Gene Nelson in 1954 in Abingdon.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Jeffrey (Kathy) Nelson of New Braunfels, Texas, and Jackie (Mark) McFetridge of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Heather, Sarah, Katie, Mollie and Shane; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Becky was raised in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1954. After graduation she was employed as a telephone operator and then worked at Protexall, Gross Manufacturing and Maytag in Galesburg, Illinois. She was a member of the Covenant Church in Galesburg.
